Locality Notes Winter 2025

Across the locality group meetings (Norwich, North, West, South and East), there were three main topics: an update from the Learning Disability Partnership Board, fire safety advice from Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, and scam-awareness information from Trading Standards.

1) Learning Disability Partnership update

  • Lee shared an update from the most recent Board meeting, which was shorter than usual as partners had no major updates.
  • Lee also updated the groups on the previous round of locality meetings, which focused on employment.
  • Gemma Pellatt (Norfolk Fire & Rescue) also joined to promote the Community Risk Management Plan survey, shared with Norwich, North and West (closed 26 November).

2) Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service – Fire safety

  • Key messages included smoke alarms (fit, place correctly, test monthly), preventing fires in the home (e.g., cooking, electrics), and having an escape plan.
  • Q&A covered topics such as flats and evacuation plans, pets in a fire, emollient cream on clothes, and when (not) to use fire blankets.
  • A Home Fire Safety Visit can be requested via an online form (support available to help complete it).

3) Trading Standards – Scams and staying safe

  • Covered scam types and where they can happen (phone, email, texts/WhatsApp, social media, doorstep, letters).
  • Focus on impersonation scams (bank/police/utilities/DWP/delivery companies).
  • Practical tips: don’t share bank details/passwords, don’t click unknown links, avoid cold callers, use “No Cold Calling” stickers, and verify by calling organisations back via official numbers.
