Meeting summary

At the locality meeting, Lee shared an update from the latest Learning Disability Partnership Board meeting. Although Emma Noon was unable to attend to discuss the Choice Support/Public Engagement Network, Gail Harvey from Tech Skills for Life presented information about the achievements, support offered, and contact details of their organisation.

The main focus of the meeting was a presentation from Norfolk County Council about Supported Living housing plans for people with learning disabilities and autistic people in Norfolk. The council team explained their work on creating better housing choices, including new Supported Living community housing schemes opening soon in Norwich, Swaffham, Kings Lynn, and North Walsham. These homes allow people to live independently with care and support nearby, including shared spaces for socialising.

Attendees discussed important aspects of housing such as having choice about where to live, feeling safe, being near local shops and activities, and receiving information about housing options. Questions were raised about availability, age requirements, pets, and care support. The council highlighted the importance of going beyond building houses to helping people moving into new homes, including providing information through a website and videos.

Next steps involve planning further housing projects using feedback from people with lived experience. The council is arranging more conversations in community settings to understand what makes a good home and what support helps people live independently. They aim to make these talks inclusive, friendly, and accessible. The meeting concluded with thanks and an invitation for ongoing input from the community.
